Interestingly enough, I'm having the same problem with our HP vectra XU90 machines. The same exact card works fine with our micron 90s. I would say that those HPs are the problem, however, like you said, both autocad and windows runs fine. Go figure. I spent a whole day trying to get those HPs to work with the driver. I ended up using the matrox adi driver instead. It was a great argument for me against our hardware people who did not want us to get the microns. Yann Bertaud – MST, Autodesk.

I thing you're wrong on that point. I've looked around in some other forum and found messages that point in the direction that Vibrant has not programmed the Vibrant Matrox drivers correctly. Take a look at the following message from the Matrox forum: Over the past little while it's been a kind of grey area where matrox and vibrant stood on the issue of incompatibilities between Matrox' hardware and Vibrant's drivers. It has come to light that a motherboard that uses pci bus type 1 may not function using vibrants drivers. Matrox And Vibrant are in communication about the problem and Matrox has provided Vibrant with the development tools and hardware to address this issue. I will post further updates concerning this issue as soon as the information becomes available. It is also noted that the impression plus functions with the current drivers but there are problems when selecting 24 bit modes over 800×600. Again, Matrox has provided Vibrant with the tools nessecary to address this issue. If you own an Mga card where everything works but 3d studio, download mgaset.exe and run the program. This will verify the pci bus type. If Pci=1 then your motherboard uses pci bus type 1. This will tell you that you will require an update to the Vibrant Inline drivers. I will send another post to this forum as soon as an updated driver is available. Regards, Dave White [MGI] So from my point of view the problem lies in the hands of Vibrant and not HP. I would also like to know what AutoDesk is doing to correct this problem. Svein A. Nilsen

>>I thing you're wrong on that point. I didn't really blame it on the hardware. I just thought that it was odd that the same exact card and driver works fine in my PCI bus micron but didn't in the HP. Everything is the same except that one is an HP and the other is Micron. Which is kinda why I blame the HP. However, like I said in my first post to you the matrox driver for autocad and for windows works fine on the HP just like on the micron. This led me to believe that it is a vibrant problem in the way that they address the card. At first look, though, it seems like it's an HP problem, everything else being the same. That was my first reaction when I ran into this problem. It could also be caused by the fact that I was forced to buy the HPs, totally against my will, and therefore was not happy with the choice, and was using the problem to my advantage to justify buying the microns. Yann, >> and was using the problem to my advantage to justify buying the microns Well, did you win…did they get you the Micron? Funny how all that proprietary stuff that's supposed to be so hot, (Compaqs, H.P., etc.), usually causes more trouble than they're worth, but "Charlies Cheaper Clones" just keep plugging away…. John

Yup, I won, I started the fight right around the first of september, won right around the beginning of november. Got the machines in finally last week. It was well worth the fight. Yann Bertaud – MST, Autodesk.

What I want to know is when AutoDesk/Vibrant is going to get some new drivers out that fix the problem. If you take a look at the message below you will see that it looks like Vibrant has everything they need to fix the problem. So when is this going to happen ? Svein A. I've got no idea, when there will be a fix. I'm not at all involved in that aspect here at Autodesk. Nik Grant should be able to tell us. He's in Product Support and is in contact with vibrant I believe. Yann Bertaud – MST, Autodesk.
