Has anyone tried using Aread (with the BridgeBoard) from an Amiga file with
a virtual disk defined in ram:? I tried to read a WP file from Amiga
floppyve to vd0: using jlink to define a vd0: fi. I consistently got an
error "Fault error". After this I could no longer look at the directory of
the defined virtual disk. And, very strange things then happened to my
machine. The memory seemed to be all messed up. When I tried running
other programs on the Amiga side, the screens didn't look right, and when
playing Sonix, the sound was messed up. Didn't do any good to warm
re-boot. I had to turn my machine off for a while then back on before
things seems to straighten themselves out. Any ideas?
You can't safely use aread/awrite when vdisk is active.
Does that mean you cannot realistically use an Amiga side hard disk as a hard
disk for the PC side?
Richard, you can use an Amiga side hard disk, but you will have to un-link it
when you need to transfer files with aread/awrite. It's a real pain, but can be
done – you just can't have the two links in use simultaneously.

That's not what I said. You cannot use aread/awrite with the jlink
software active. That has nothing to do with using an Amiga side HD for
MS-DOS.

yes, you can use a JLinked HD for use with the PC side, BUT if you want
to ARead or AWrite a file, first UNLINK the JLinked file and then use ARead or
AWrite. If necessary, use a floppy file as an intermediate if you want to move
something from an Amiga drive to the JLinked drive virtual drive.
Also, if you create a JLinked virtual drive, other than in RAM:, then
FILL IT FIRST all the way…use junk files and directoryies if you have to.
Then unlink the virtual drive. Relink it, and delete the garbage
files. The reasoning behind this is a bit complex, but sufice it to say it can
prevent lots of problems. Once you've deleted the garbage files, you can then
add the files you really want to the JLinked drive and not worry about them.
