#Amiga Models ?????????

I would like to purchase an Amiga computer because I've heard so much of
what can be done with it's visual and auditory arts capabilities. But,
because I live on an island (Kauai) and the only CBM vendor is not very
articulate or helpful, I will purchase mailorder. My problem is that I'm
confused as to what are the differences between the various Amiga models
(500,2000, and UP). What ARE the main differences? I am pretty computer
literate as far as the PC word is concerned, but I must admit that this
knowledge gap has held my Amig purchase back for some time. I first got
interested in Amiga when the company announced its video interface some few
years back. Is that a feature of all the models??? Can someone clear up
some of my confusion and make me a reccomendation for purchase? I am a
educator (art) and video cameraman. Mahalo and Aloha……………..

You should get several replies to your request, because we are all eager to
tell you about the Amiga. No bias here!!
All Amigas come with a serial port and a parallel port, and with
ntsc-compatible video output. They can all run the same software, but
there are many differences between them in the area of speed and
expandability.
The A500 comes with 512K memory, expandable inside the machine to 1M, and
with one expansion slot. Usually, people put a hard disk on that slot, and
some of the hard disks come with sockets for up to 2M of memory.
The 2×00 comes with Amiga slots and Bridgeboard slots – the Bridgeboard
being a clone on a card that can go inside your Amiga, and can run in a
window while the Amiga is running its own software. The 2000 is the basic
machine, and the others are made by adding cards to the 2000.
The 2500 is an Amiga2000 with a coprocessor card that has either a 68020 or
68030 chip and at least 2M of 32-bit memory. Currently, the 2500/030 is
the most popular machine, if I can trust my dealer. She can't seem to get
them in fast enough. This machine is really fast. The 2500 has a hard
disk controller and 40M disk included as well.
The 2000HD is a 2000 with the standard 68000 CPU, but with a hard disk
controller and a 40M hard disk included.
Others will fill you in on the advantages and wonders of these machines,
but this is the basic difference between them.
