Mike, in addition to using a lens from a 35mm camera, NewTec says they
Digi-View slides on a light-table (4×5 slides mostly, some 2×2) to get the
great pics in their demos. Has anyone else been doing this? I've just
started experimenting, and I think the quality from slides will be much
better than from a print; lot of variables involved though and I haven't
worked all of them out yet. If anyone else uses slides as the subject,
please post a description of your setup and any hints or tips. Thanks,
You just gave me an idea. I have a slide duplicator accessory for my
camera. I think I'll put it on and see how it works. Only problem I can
forsee is that it's fixed focus and the adapter plus the different focal
plane position of the video camera might not work out. I'll let you know. I
also have a slide sorter around somewhere I could try as a backlight, that
with wy 210mm lens might work for slides. Mike

Well, I tried my slide duplicator and the focus problem was solved with an
adjustment to the mechanical focus of the camera tube, however I did forget
one other thing — because of the difference in the diagonal measure of the
pickup device (film approx 50mm, camera tube approx 17mm) there is an
inherent 3 times magnification of the slide. The result is that only about
1/9 the area of the slide comes through. If I can ever find my slide sorter
or some other good even backlight I'll try slides again. This time with a
regular lens with some closeup adapters. Mike
