That was the time for blue-sky feedback … at this point in the game, it's too late for major feedback on V1.4, most of the major decisions have already been made, and what remains is pulling everything together and getting it out the door. Letters to afinkel right now would, I suspect, not do much besides possibly delay the release by the ammount of time it takes to send them to the circular file.
