#Render Problem
11 messages in this thread
Bob, I downloaded you cells and rendered the picture. It came out great.
My guess is that you don't have enough memory. Unfortunately, SV won't
inform you of low memory situations, it just omits some of your picture! If
you have 3 megs or less, maybe you should try shutting down all other
processes you've got running or try running mergemem prior to running
Silver. If the problem persists, let me know. I'll need specific info on
the memory, hardware, etc. you're using.
Hey guys, It just leaves out part of the picture? I have 5MB and have been
having probls with a piano that ends up with little pieces of the
black-keys left out…..at first I thought it was reflections or
specularity/hardness, but it seems to be somethin' else…I will send you
the entire file tomorrow in the mail.
Scott, first make sure you have all the triangles in place! If you do,
there is a known bug in SV which reacts poorly in low memory situations.
Rather than let you know it doesn't have enough memory to render a picture,
the program just leaves part of your picture out. I've found this to occur
in trace mode, not so often in solid. –Rick
It is just an extrude of a rectangle. The part thats mising is one side
and a bottom of an extrude….so it should not be missing triangles…. I
have 5 MB of RAM and just got 2 more (and a bernoulli box) so if thats the
problem it wont be for long….I sent the disks out to Impulse on
friday….check em out and see if memory was my prob or if I extruded
wrong……
Scott, don't extrude an object that has faces already defined. I have
noted that the triangles on the faces sometimes get mangled and cause
missing areas like you describe. You're better off making the outline of
the rectangle, copying it and setting it aside, extrude the original
outline, fill in the faces on the copy and position it in front and behind
your extrude. When you've done this, join the three objects. It's a
little cumbersome, but you end up with a simpler object and a lot less room
for error.
Darn! Here I am again, with yet ANOTHER question… Has anyone made an
objects disk of the various craft from the movie "TRON"? Such as my
favourites, the light cycles and the tanks. There, I'm done for now… heh
heh
I don't think so, but I'd love to see one myself. –Rick
One of the object disks from Impulse has the lightcycle and the tank. I'm
not sure if it was the "Down Under" disk or one of the "Potpourri" disks…
Thanks for the info. Now, I only have to get the cash and hope Impulse
knows which one I am talking about. *8>
I'm running a 2 meg A1000. The image rendered fine in Full Trace, I
just had a problem in Solid Model and thought that I was just stupid or
something. Wish I could trade up to a whiz bang Amiga, but I'm fortunate
to have all that I do. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out.
Bob, 2 megs is definitely cramped for SV. Good luck! Rick
