Hi folks! I am using vt100 emulation with JR-Comm and I am having problems having the function keys recognized … some of them seem to work, and others don't … and there seems to be very little correspondence between the numbers of the function keys on my 500 and the function key code that gets sent (for the ones that semi-work) … has any one else seen this? does anyone know how to do what i am trying to do? thx!! jake

Jake, As listed in the docs, F1-F4 default to the PF keys on an VT100 unless you override them with macros. As for anything else, you'll have to leave details on the way you think it should be working… -jack-

Jack, My wife needs to connect to a UNIX box at work. The terminal she uses at work is an AT&T (786?,756?, she'll check today) and has 14 function keys. The software on the UNIX box seems to be most comfortable with this type of term (the software is AT&T FACE based). I set up jr-comm to emulate a vt-100 and set TERM=vt100 on the UNIX machine when logging in. The screen seems to look fine, just the function keys don't exactly map (and there aren't enough of them). She will be bringing home the user manual for the terminal tonight and if I can figure out what the function keys actually send, I could set them up as macros (correct?). So, perhaps I can figure this one out myself, but any experience you or anyone else has had doing a set-up like this would be great. BTW, I think the the terminal is an ANSI term, but there doesn't seem to be a straight ANSI term emulation. I played around with some of the choices, but the only one I could get working (display-wise) was vt-100 … is the IBM Mono choice a straight ANSI emulation or is it one of the other choices? thx!!! jake P.S. An excellent communications prog!!

Jake, Don't know if it'll help, but I use VLT daily to access my ATTMail — works great. -sja

Jake, The ANSI specification is humungous, I don't think that there's a single program out there that incorporates the complete spec, just subsets of it. The VT-100 has more ANSI in it that either the Amiga or IBM (which is the smallest subset). I'm not familiar with the AT&T terminal, but I'm fairly certain that it's not totally compatible with a VT-100, they're manufactured by DEC. They also only have four PF (program function) keys on them. You should be able to create a set of macros that mimic the 14 keys on the AT&T terminal, read chap. 11 for details on them. And thanks for the compliments, much appreciated. -jack-
