We are in the process of adding WP 4.1 to ProWrite conversion to our
ProWrite Convert program, since 4.1 is the latest Amiga version of WP. We
don't have any plans right now to support WP 5.x, since it seems unlikely
that WP Corp. will ever upgrade the Amiga version to this level.
However, John Foust with Syndesis has suggested that they may develop a
word processor conversion program. You might ask him about it.

It is unfortunate that New Horizons is not considering a Wordperfect
5.0/5.1 to Prowrite conversion. I know of many office environments who
would purchase more Amiga computers if they could be better able to
maintain data integrity across platforms. With the Novell software
currently available to Amiga users, many Amiga lovers are hoping to
convince their corporate MIS director or purchasing agent to approve the
purchase of an Amiga for office use. The most common objection in such a
situation is "well, everyone in this company uses WP 5.x and it is
essential that we adhere to this file format for information exchange
within your workgroup/department." Last night, at a dinner with many
corporate types who are proud Amiga home users, they informed me that it
would be difficult for me to sell Amigas to them for their offices (even
though they love the Ami) unless compatibility with WP 5.1 (or WP 5.1 for
that matter) can be demonstrated.

Interesting. I hadn't heard of much interest in WP 5.x file format support
on the Amiga until this, but your comments are noted and we will look into
it.

I _would_ purchase ProWrite immediately if it provided a really good file
conversion from Word Perfect 5.x file format to ProWrite and vice versa. It
would solve a lot of problems and certainly stop me from driving Word
Perfect crazy in doing 5.x for the Amiga.
I like ProWrite better but its custom file formats are not useful when I
need to move to the IBM pig at the office.
There, now add my voice to the newly formed crowd!

Just to put my two cents in. I _have_ an Amiga 2500/30 at work, with a
Bridgeboard, hooked into a Novell net through the bridge.
Our company word processing standard? WP 5.1.
Our company spreadsheet standard? Lotus 2.2 and 3.1.
Our company database standard? Paradox on the PeeCees, with Oracle running
on a Unix box on the net. We're currently working on bringing up the new
version of Paradox to work as a "front end" for Oracle.
Point: The reason I could get the Amiga in here was that I could show that
I could run on the Novell net just like a PC AT, AND that I could port 123
and WP files back and forth.
So, now I do ALL of our company's newsletters (using ProPage). I do desk
top demos (using a bunch of different products on the Amy side.) And, when
we need graphs etc. to look really nice, I take the spreadsheet info into
The_Advantage, dump out ProDraw versions of the graphs, and then spice them
up in ProDraw and ProPage (we have a color postscript printer in house).
This is the case, EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE PLENTY OF TOP LINE MSDOS DTP AND
GRAPH PROGRAMS.
Yes — interchangeability with with MSDOS "standard" formats is
_extremely_ important if you want to get this platform, and its software,
into a business setting. (I also do quite a bit of work importing images
scanned on an HP Scanjet in TIFF format [256 gray], HIJAAKed into 8 bit
IFF, and then processed with TAD and output from ProPage.)
