#Newer DMCS version?
17 messages in this thread
I bought my Amiga used and it came with Deluxe Music v1.2. I've really
enjoyed using the program but it seems to have lots of bugs in it. Does
anyone know if there is a newer version than 1.2 out? I would appreciate
any info.

Mark,
The latest version (that I know of) is 301904 bytes long. There are still
some bugs, but so far, no update/upgrade for it. There's a lot of people
hoping for one.
Some of the bugs have work-arounds (or at least, avoidance tactics. 😉 If
you have any specific problems we'll be glad to try to help.
Hope this helps, 8)

I sent in my DPaint 3 disks to be updated and included a note saying I'd
happily pay for a DMCS upgrade. I think anyone that corresponds with EA
(disk updates, phone conversations, registeration cards of other titles,
etc.) should send them a message requesting a DMCS upgrade. It may not
help but it won't hurt.
Leslie,
An excellent suggestion. I wrote them a letter once about it. They did
write a polite note back, but basically said that nothing further was
planned. The more (constructive) feedback they get, the more likely
something might happen.

Thanks. I only stands to reason that everytime they hear from an Amiga
owner that a DMCS update/upgrade is wanted that they will take notice. I
will be adding a note like that on every EA registration card I send in and
make mention of it with every phone call. I hope everyone else does the
same!
The latest version is 303720 bytes long dated 88-08-01 15:46:30 – EA's
unprotected version.
Here's a tip to improve the print quality of DMCS when using a higher
resolution (DJ+, etc.) printer. NOTE: DO THIS ON A COPY OF THE PROGRAM, NOT
THE ORIGINAL!:
1. Use Newzap or a similar program to search for $005003E8. (It occurs
only once in the program).
2. The $03E8 (1000 dec) is the maximum number of pixels that the score
setup window will allow for printer width. Zap the $03E8 to conform with
the actual number of pixels your printer can produce in one line. On my DJ+
with 300dpi that would be 8" (1/4" margins) X 300 = 2400 or $0960.
3. Now play with the printer width and # of bars per line to make sure
it all works. I've found that I can't go all the way up to 2400 (the
printout freaks out!), but I can go way beyond 1000 to improve the print
quality. -Paul-
Great tip Paul. Thanks! –jp–
Your welcome. See my response to Brian.

Paul,
Thanks a lot for that info on DMCS printing. I'm certain that it will be
useful to many people. 8)

Paul, it sounds like you've dug into the program a little. I've looked at
it too with Resource. I wanted to find if and where the io_Special
structure member was being loaded and add the SPECIALNOFORMFEED bit so that
it will print properly with the HP Laserjet driver. I'll have too try your
patch.

Brian,
Yes I know what you mean, one page per line is a little much! But I was
not the one who did the digging. It was a member of our users group. His
pet project is to create a DMCS clone in assembly, and has done a LOT of
digging. At our next meeting I'll ask him about the SPECIALNOFORMFEED bit.
-Paul-
Paul,
Saw your message about your friend who is trrying to create a DMCS clone
in assembly. It sounds interesting! Is he still working on the project, and
if so, how are along is he?
Thanks…
Regards,
Allen
I'll ask him at our next users group meeting (2nd Saturday of each month)
and get back to you.
-Paul-
Paul,
Thanks. If I happen to find it too, I'll pass the information along.
