Can anyone tell me for certain if SCSI Express NLM will work with the
Microsoft Extensions product. The Dec. 31 PC Mag says 'no', but others I
have spoken with say 'yes'.
I'd appreciate the help as I'm trying to select a hardware/software
solution for two CD-ROM LANS.
Thanks,
Bill
bILL,
SCSI Express will not support CD-ROM products whose software makes calls
directly to MSCDEX. However, the question you must ask CD-ROM publishers
is "Does their software need MSCDEX?" I think you will find that very few
products require MSCDEX to run — they only need MSCDEX so that their PC &
DOS can recognize the CD-ROM drive. SCSI Express has found a way to make
the CD-ROM drive available without the use of MSCDEX — as long as the
software on the CD is not tied into MSCDEX, the product will work.
