Don, Would a zapped 8520 cia chip cause intermittant problems? Would there be any other problems caused by this chip failing that I would notice? Thanks…Scott

Scott, Yes…a zapped 8520 could cause problems with the serial port, but other problems would also show up. Don

Scott, The 8520 that deals with the serial port also deals with the busy and paper out lines for the parallel port. It also handles some of the floppy lines. Unfortunately…or fortunately…when an 8520 blows…they usually don't go flat dead. They start to develop weirdness…that is, things work one time, and not the next. They're very prone to intermittents when they get zapped. If your computer is acting werid…an 8520 is the most likely cause. Don
