Bill, I finally installed the new 68882 chip and clock on my A2620 board! I ran a few tests and this is what I came up with: For a 1/4 screen HAM RGB8 TRACE rendering in Imagine (V2.0) for a glass sitting on a texture wrapped board: 1) NO ACCELERATOR – 2:43:17 (2 hours, 43 minutes, 17 seconds). 2) wimpy 68881 – 0:38:02 3) 25 Mhz 68882 – 0:22:25 (Kind of makes me appreciate ANY accelerator…) For other pictures, the results were similar. I ran out of patience for doing pictures WITHOUT the accelerator. But I ran a few tests comparing the various FPUs against themselves. Merely installing a 68882 and using it at the same speed as the stock 68881 produced pictures in 25% less time than the basic A2620 board. Bumping up the clock speed to 25 MHz rendered in anywhere from 33% to 41% less time than the A2620 with its 14 Mhz 68881. What it comes down to is this…GET AN ACCELERATOR! Spend an extra $100 or so and put in a 68882. (Or spend probably a lot less for a 14 Mhz 68882 and get a fair speedup over the 68881…But you'll STILL find yourself wishing for more speed!) Thanx for the info… I suspect that most of my programs will not use the '882, but I must find out if my auio stuff takes advantage of it. If it does I think I will upgrade my 2620 as well! Again thanx for taking the time to do those experiments! ..Bill 😉

And if I REALLY wanted to take some time… I could let my Amiga grind away on 24 bit trace of a Klein bottle… WITHOUT the accelerator kicked in! (WITH the 25 MHz 68882 it took over 6 hours. I can only assume I would be Amigaless for 2 full days. No Thanx!) Gotta go! Robert
