DCTV Problems

I hope someone can answer this. I am using DCTV to create 3D anims and the
problem is that the output looks great on my sony 13" monitor but, when I
plug DCTV into my vcr and record, the output looks awful. The starfield
shimmers badly (I sort of expected this one) but the colors also bleed
badly, and the picture is a little jumpy. When I tried using the video in
on my Canon A1 Digital camcorder, I got the same results. How can I get my
anim to tape and have it look good?

Sounds like the levels your sending to the VCR are too hot. NTSC has much
less tolerance to high levels than computer monitors. IF the program your
using to create the 3D pixs have levels from 0-255 then keep them no higher
than 190-200 for NTSC work. Also Avoid thin horizontal lines and colors
next to eachother that are "opposites". I can't name those offhand but they
would appear on opposite ends of a vector scope. Look at some text books on
NTSC and you should find one with a vector scope and explaination of colors
in NTSC. BTW NTSC is the video standard in the US and a scant few other
countries. Often humorously called "Never Twice the Same Color."
