Disk errors

I have been getting checksum errors and disk-validator errors on my disks.
Is there any thing I can do or use to find out why this is occuring and how
to fix these problems? Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

Presuming you're using good disks, and you don't get the same
errors if you try the disk in another Amiga, there's one of two things
probably wrong.
1. Dirty drive heads. Places like Radio Shack sell 3.5" drive
cleaning kits…try one.
2. A bad 8520 CIA chip in your Amiga. But usually other problems
will crop up if one of those goes bad.

Have you been waiting for the disk light to go out before you pop the disks
out of the drives or before you reboot? That's a major cause of the
problems you describe.

I always wait for all drive activity to stop before taking out a disk. I
tried a head cleaning kit and they seem to be running better. On one game I
have I was playing it for a while and then quit and shut off my system.
About an hour later I came back to play some more and I got the checksum
error message. I was so frustrated!!!! Any ideas on that?

Have you started using different disks recently? Floppy disks quality can
very widely. Have you noticed anything else that's wrong with your system?
It's possible that one of your 8520's has blown. Have you
plugged/unplugged your mouse or joystick with the system turned on? A
blown 8520 will make your system act flakey, and might cause the problems
you describe.
