This once very popular vine has now, for some reason, gone rather out of favor. It used to grace trellises, trees, etc. all over the Gulf Coast, but is now seen only in very old gardens. More's the pity. Why don't you call around (you live in SoCal, no?) some nurseries in your area and just ask. One of the common names, btw, is "climb- ing yam," and it is a TRUE yam, unlike the sweet potato, which is actually a morning glory! If you can't find it in your area, let me know; I'm pretty sure I can come up with seeds, air tubers, or even ground tubers. br, in Houston P.S. all three specific names you quoted are valid species, "bulbifera" prolly having the most spectacular leaves.
