Last night, a beautiful floral display of tiny white daisies, baby's
breath, and "PINK" roses arrived on our doorstep.
Gail and I will be "grandparents" this coming July!!!!!
Our son and daughter-in-law chose this very sweet way to tell us that…
"IT'S A GIRL, due to arrive sometime this coming JULY!!!!
The card read…."Dear Grandma and Grandpa…I can hardly wait to be held
by you.
Love, your new Grandaughter"
It's the first GIRL in 3 generations. Grandpa has a playhouse to build,
and Grandma knows what to do with her doll collections. But first Grandma
is taking Grandpa to the baby furniture store. (BIG BIG GRINS AT OUR
HOUSE)

Thanks, Warren. Our sons and 2 daughters (our son's wives) are very
special to us.

Congratulations! Hope you don't have too big a Baby furn. store around
there – (my son's bed cost more than mine!) Good luck! Neil
Neil, hahahaha, tell us about it! We went out today to price baby
furniture, so we know how big a check to put in the mail. Want our kids to
pick out what "they" want in the baby's room. As a Grandpa, I had
FUN…something I was too young and broke to do when I was just a
daddy-to-be years ago. <g>
CONGRATULATIONS, Howard and Gail! Little girls are sooo much fun! My
little "pink rose" (my daughter) is 20 months old and a delight.

from gail, thank you, Alison. I wish you could have seen Howard walking
around the "baby furniture store" today. He was testing everything for
safety…you name it. I just had to step back, smile, and enjoy him. One
very, VERY young salesperson gave "me" (Howard, too), a STRANGE look. I
told her, "no, no, no… we are the Grandparents-to-be. That's all.
That's it. Just browsing for our kids."

Somehow it doesn't surprise me that Howard would be intrigued with all the
baby furniture – I think his zest for life must overflow into all areas.

from gail…Howard is "zesty" alright. <g> This morn. we worked on
library files together, went to check baby furniture, stopped to check out
a brand new store called The Party Store…everything you need from wedding
limos to paper hats, jogged on over to Crown Book Store to see if they had
Jeff & Liz Ball's new book, "Yardening"… (they aren't going to carry it,
Jeff, so we'll just check Waldons & B. Daltons), had lunch at a new place
for us called The Soup Exchange…more soup, salad, pasta, than you can
shake a tureen at, drove over to the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, (here
in Claremont) to buy some special wildflower seeds for the Seed Swap here
on GARDENING, and visited "our" Redwood tree in the new California Culivar
Garden at Rancho. BTW, our tree in the Botanic Garden is larger than the
other 2 new "redwoods" that were planted awhile back. And that's about it
for a day of running around.
What a wonderful way to receive the good news! A bouquet and card. I know
your new granddaughter will always remember thank you notes for the gifts
you'll be giving (she has well-trained parents, who musta got this from the
grandfather, that inveterate card-sender, HM). Anyway, congratulations to
Howard and Gasil!
Thank you very much, Marjory. We promised our kids that we would't spoil
this new grandaughter, but we didn't mean it. <Big Grin>
Congratulations! You all have so much to look forward to. What a lucky

Thank you, Jodi…Grandpa is in the stuffed toy business of late, while
Grandma (looking ahead) is into children's books. Oh, Oh ….thunder and
lightning.

Congratulations!!!!!!! Yes, it is exciting having girls around. As
you know I have ONLY granddaughters (I guess I wished TOO hard after having
sons). (G) They are very special.

Hi Ellis, and thank you for the congratulations. After raising sons
ourselves, I guess that's what I know best. Went into a store at Christmas
to get some toys for my nieces, but found myself searching the aisles where
the Tonka trucks were…force of habit with my 2 boys, I guess. My nieces
said, "that's alright; nobody ever gave us a dump truck before."
I guess I should know something about *girls*…I used to be one, but that
was soooooo long ago. <g>

Gail and Howard,
Yes, it was a long time ago when I was a girl and it takes some
remembering, but it doesn't seem to help much. Grand children (like all
children) are such individuals that one needs to find their interests
first. One would rather be a boy and her sister loves to wear dresses and
play dress-up etc.

I just got the news on my expected child, it will be 'Edward Ian', a boy,
due end of june. will be our first. we too were out shopping for baby
furniture today!
Saw some great crib/dresser combos that turn into beds as the kids grow.
Expensive but nice. My wife would love one but that would mean we'd have to
buy another one in another year or so <g>. Meanwhile some friends have
passed on their old crib and playpen.

Well, CONGRAULATIONS, to you, Jerry, on becoming a brand new "Daddy" this
coming June. We know the proud Dad is you, and that special baby BOY will
be called 'Edward Ian'. But what's your wife's name???
Seems we weren't the only people out shopping for baby furniture yesterday.
p.s. When you're on the way to the hospital, don't stall the car the way I
did when our son was about to be born. I think it's easier to be the
grandpa, as I will be this time. All the best to your wife and you, DAD,
and to "Edward Ian" who will make his official debut this coming June.
the wife's name is Mary Ann. She is the green thumb in the family. The
house was barely more than a desert before she arrived. Now i've got a
jungle! (and a very wet one lately 😎

Thank you very much, Diann…1st. grandchild. <g>
Howard — I guessed as much! My parents promised to be cool about such
matters, but that all went out the window as soon as my sister announced
the coming event! They now have 6 grandkids, and each time it's as
special, so they say.
I'm embroidering my mother a thing that says "if I'd known grandchildren
were this much fun, I'd have had them first". She says it's true!
