Hi Rick, I'm afraid I've never heard of a way to have a lush lawn and a playful puppy living together…a dog's urine burns grass leaving the yellow/brown spots. Fescues are one of the better grasses for well used areas – but even it can't stand up to constant wear. I'll ask around National Gardening and see if anyone has any suggestions and I'll let you know what I find. Alison

I've heard there is a pill you can give dogs that neutralizes their urine. I have not been able to find a source. However, I do know that if you give dogs more water rather than less, their urine is much less concentrated. Finally, it is possible to train a pup to go to the bathroom in one area–even a driveway.
