Thanks for the insight. Where can i get a copy of AVID? By the way, what tape format are you using? Do you stick to one format or rent whatever is necessary for the type of job. I know that for some industrial type of work, SVHS/HI8 is adequate, but not for broadcast. That's another big choice that i've been dealing with. Since i don't know where the majority of my work will come from, I can't really buy equipment for that market. Do i buy $Betacam$ gear to be on par with broadcast quality, or something less expensive like SVHS/HI8 (Not $$$), OR should i just rent what I need? Decisions, decisions, decisions. Erik

Erik, you will probably find AVID at your local Amiga dealer, otherwise call them direct at (408) 252-0508 for subscriptions and back issues. The tape formats I use are as follows, 3/4SP or SVHS for most field aquisition, I have a portable 1" but don't usually take it out on location. I transfer ALL my aquisition material to 3/4SP (unless originally aquired on that format) then A/B roll edit through Toaster to MII (a component format with aprox same specs as betacamSP). I then make archive masters on 1". I think you are on the right track to rent the gear as you need it for aquisition that is more demanding than Hi-8 or "S", although those formats are pretty damn good if you get the right setup, obviously BetacamSP is desireable but even in the used market WAY HIGH BUCKS.
