Arno,
WHen you describe Pro Page as outputting PostScript, do you imply that
you can honest-to-God drive a PostScript printer (say a LaserWriter+, which I
have in our lab)? What does one need in the way of drivers, cabling, etc. to
feed such a PS printer? Have you seen it done? I'm really interested in the
possibility of doing with my Amiga some of the stuff I currently use a Mac for.

I believe Ppage will output through the serial interface of tha Amiga
if your LaserWriter+ has such a beast and drive it well. It will also write
postscript command files to disk in ascii fromat that could then be used from
most any software that will drive the Laserwriter+ from an ascii command file.
The thing that blows me away is that it looks like GoldDisk assumes that I
either have unlimited patience, a handy-dandy $5000+ postscript printer, or no
need to see rough drafts as they don't provide any means on getting output to a
dot-matirx, never you mention HP compat laser printer. What's up Arno, comeon.

No need to wory, Dot Matrix output is in Pro Page right now and will be
shipping as V1.1 (free upgrade to registered owners) in March. PostScript
printer prices are in Freefall right now. I've seen adds for $3000. and I
woiuldn';t be surprised to see to see $2000 by the end of '88. HP support will
be in shorlty after V1.1. (Actually the preferences support for the HP is not
too shabby as it is with the V1.3 drivers!). The thing you have to remember
about Pro Page is that it was originally conceived as a Professional Product to
be used in an envirom\nment where PS Laser printers already existed. We didn't
really think there was a need for Dot matrix outpout abd didn't want to delay
the release for that. Evidently we were wrong, so it's in V1.1. INcidently
we've also decided to build in the Color Seperation capability into the program
rather than sell it as a seperate module. That'll also be in V1.1 as a free
upgrade.

That's really good news, I'll be looking forward to the upgrade
packages. ps. Don't let anyone give you hell about the interlace mode only,

To output to a LaserWriter you need an AMIGA rs232 serial cable with a NULL MO
MODEM connection (lines 2 and 3 reversed). You need to set the LaserWrier to
accept serial input (NOT APPLETALK) by setting a thumbwheel to som number (see
the manual). Make sure that the serial BAUD rate agrees between the Amiga and
the the printer. That should be all! We've successfully hooked it up to teh
LaserWriter the QMS PS 800, a Linotronic 100 and 300 phototypesetter, and a NEC
890 laser printer. So far we haven't heard of any problams with any PostScript
device.
