I've been raising a few here in Durham, NC for several years. They're
quite easy to do – drill holes in Sweet gum or Oak logs, put in spawn
impregnated dowls and seal with melted paraffin. Then you just leave them!
(or maybe soak them in water for a day once each quarter).
I haven't been too happy with the regularity of my harvest perhaps I should
be soaking them more often.

We are also trying to find sources for spores or spore filled wood, this
time in Southern England but importing from the USA is also possible, or
from Japan if anyone is picking this up over there.

I've used Carolina Agro-tech's spawn. They're at (919)438-2674 and I think
evenings were the best time to reach them.

I have been growing them here in Japan. I could send you the spawn if you
wish (in return for something I can't get here). I have never heard of
capping them, as has been suggested here. But I agree that they are easy to
grow. We have had some very nice ones already although "officially" we are
supposed to get our first ones next autumn. Basically what they need is
shade, air flow, and humidity. So, if you live in a dry area the thing to
do is to water them regularly. Reuben
