Help . . can anyone recommend a chipper . . I've got a fair amount of trees
in my back yard, and would probably want to chip all the brush and branches
up to about a 1.5" diameter, after which they'd be good for campfires. . .
any ideas??? compactness, safety, and perhaps electricity rather than gas
are of value . .
Hi Bob…..I own an electric chipper/shredder. It takes branches up to
about 1 inch. It does just fine on everything below that diameter.
California Legislators have threatened to outlaw internal cumbustion
engines for yard equipment for some time now, so an electric one was a
necessity. By the way,we have an article in LIB 11, SHREDD.ARC.
Bob, there are a number of chippers on the market. Mantis sells a pretty
good one (800-342-0052) also Kinsman (800-733-5613). The chippers are no
good for leaves and wet compost materials — to do both limbs and leafs you
need a general purpose shredder/grinder and it will have a gasoline engine.
All the chipper/grinders are compact but some are more stable than others.
You want a machine that allows you easy access to the knives because you
must sharpen them frequently for the machine to work well. Don't forget to
were ear protection as well as eye protection when running any power
machine, including the lawn mower by the way.
