Don – you can add the state after your name by choosing "options" while in the Garden Forum, rewriting your entire name in the "name" category. Then make sure to choose "p" to make the change permanent when it asks for "s" (this session only) or "p" (for permanent). i think you have to do this while in an interactive mode online. it does seem to make a lot of sense to have the state or country there, especially for a forum like this, since gardening suggestions often depend so much upon where you're growing. You might also change to upper and lower case with your name, since all caps tends to get used to indicate SHOUTING. on the other hand, sometimes it's nice to capitalize letters FOR NO REASON at all. not sure why your deletions are a problem, but i'm sure one of the other sysops will know what to do and will respond. Don, Have you thought of using TAPCIS instead of CIM? I am quite sure that you will find your online charges go WAY DOWN using TAP. The main difference is that TAP allows you to do almost all of the work offline. This includes things like writing messages, reviewing message headers (titles) from the sections you're interested in, browsing short or long descriptions of library files, etc. A typical TAP session goes like this, for me. I start TAP, and ensure that I have the right Forums shown as active. I then type the single letter <N>ew, and TAP dials and signs me on, and collects all the new mail, messages addressed to me, and the headers of all new messages posted in the forums of interest. It then signs off after about a minute of connect time. While offline, I read the messages, compose replies, and decide which of the general messages I want to download. I then type <O>nline, and TAP posts my messages and gets the other messages that I'd indicated I wanted. About another minute. So far I've spent $.40. It also does efficient library searches, and many other things, including file management that I think is superior to CIM's. In general, I think the product is much more useful than CIM, and really results in cost savings. You can get the current version of TAP in GO TAPCIS. It's shareware, you use it for 21 days for free and buy it for $79 if you think it's worth it. Ron

Don, I would suggest going to the IBM Communications forum and downloading a program called OZCIS. It is composed of four files (OZICS1-4.EXE). It is a FREE program and is excellent. Much better than TAPCIS, which I used to use. The main improvement is that it is much, much easier to use than TAPCIS. And you will save lots of money on connect time, because you can do all of your reading and writing of message offline. You can also maintain a listing of the library files, so you don't have to download them until you need them. You can't go wrong with OZCIS! -Howard

Don, Unfortunately, suggestions to use other programs don't help you with CIM. Since you've already invested the money, let's try and make what you have work. I have no problem deleting mail from my Filing Cabinet while off-line, so a global condemnation of CIM is way off base. First, what version of CIM are you using? Some of the older versions did have some problems. Also, what PC are you using? Or is it Mac? If DOS, what version? How much hard disk space do you have on your disk? Messages stored in your filing cabinet are simply files; the folder name is the name of a sub-directory off of the CIM directory. Perhaps you have some bad sectors on your disk – have you done any surface scans (like with Spinrite, Norton, or PC Tools)? Do you have this problem with mail messages in every folder, or only certain ones? Lemme know. You might also post the same message in the CIM Support forum and see what they say. Steve
