I spent yesterday afternoon formatting my hard drive with various interleaves Below is a table of the results, which you may find useful for comparison/ reference. Test Time, Transfer Rate, Interleave Seconds(1) Revs/Track(1) Bytes/Second(1) Disk Index(2) ————————————————————————— 1 70 18 29,002 0.5 2 69 18 29,002 0.5 3 72 18 29,002 0.5 4 72 18 29,002 0.5 5 15 4 130,560 1.4 6 22 5 104,448 1.0 7 23 5 104,448 1.2 8 29 6 87,040 1.1 9 30 6 87,040 1.0 10 30 7 74,596 1.0 Note: 1) These figures are from a test that averages >200 track reads. 2) Norton's Utilities Disk Index, relative to a PC/XT. Boy, you sure were right about the performance factor and interleave, but when you compare the ~77% decrease in performance when dropping from 5 to 4 against the ~20% decrease when raising it from 5 to 6, it's almost unbelievable. Mark PS. Guess I'll have to keep looking for those books, but all I 've seen are the 'housekeeping' type.
