#3rd Party Apps
4 messages in this thread
Hi there!
There are a couple of Autocad applications that I need to find info on. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.
Anybody have info/comments on:
'AUTOPLANT'?
Any application to check 3D Transmission Line Clearance?
Applications that track amount of time spent on each of a full set
of drawing files and/or generate reports?
'BANG', an application to explode blocks scaled differently in X and Y?
I'm also curious about intelligent AEC/Civil applications that would work
with both AutoCAD and Microstation. Already have some information on EDS.
Hope this isn't too many questions to ask at once!
Thanks in advance!!!

OK… here's a beginning…
1. AutoPLANT is a series of third party programs for plant design. There are
at least four modules: Designer, Isometrics, P&ID and Schematics. They are
published by Engineering Design Automation (EDA) who can be reached at
510.848.7080.
2. Cadalyst magazine just published a lisp routine that checks transmission
line clearance, but only in 2D (i.e., presumably from the ground, and not
from the ground and adjacent rock faces or trees or whatever). If you're
interested in checking it out, it can be downloaded from Lib 9 "What's
New"; filename is PPSAG.ZIP. The routine and the application were
described in the October '91 issue.
3. The heavyweights in drawing management are Autobase, from CYCO International
in Atlanta (404.634.3302) and AutoEDMS from ATS Telecom (no number handy,
sorry). Cadalyst will be reviewing four such programs in the May 1992
issue.
4. Bang is published by CAD Lettering Systems of Oldmar FL (813.855.2681).
5. Are you looking for one application that will run under both AutoCAD and
Microstation? I dunno…. Don't know how that would work.

Paul, Kristine,
Well, I see that Dave Byrnes <too bad he can't spell his name right>
has already answered most of your questions. I will answer the last one.
You will not be very likely to find ANY 3rd-party applications that
run with both ACAD and uSTN (if I understand your question correctly). Or,
to rephrase that, you will not find any software vendors to have versions of
their software ported to both CADD packages. The only exception to this
that I'm currently aware of is GWN-DTM, which has been made to work with
both packages (seperate version of the program, of course). GWN-DTM does
Digital Terrain Modeling (as the name implies), and I believe the vendor
has other applications as well, but don't quote me on that!<g>
Unfortunately, I don't have any further information handy about that vendor
just now, but give me a yell & I'll be glad to look it up for you tomorrow.

Hi there. As Dave Byrnes pointed out, we make a document management system
called AutoBASE. If any of your concerned parties want to find out how
your particular setup could be enhanced by it, please contact Chris
Tsangrides (one of our AB application engineers) here at 404 634 3302.
Alternately, we could send you a fully functional demo disk for you to play
with a bit.
