Jeffrey – (or anyone more or less official – which is not to say "officious," at least not necessarily. But I digress…) Is there anything in the works to change the coordinate display from coords. to a relative scale factor when using the SCALE command, or after inserting blocks? IOW, you select the objects you want to scale, choose the base point, and then rubber band the object and have the status line read 1.XX, 2.XX, etc. instead of the relative coordinates. Same thing with INSERT. Surely if the display can show the object growing as you move away from the base point, a dynamic scale factor could be shown as well, even if it's an approximation for reference purposes. At least it seems that way to me (but then *I* can't program my way out of a paper bag <g>). Craig B

Craig – That's exactly how it works right now. The AutoCAD SCALE command will by default, use an implied "Reference length" of 1.0, meaning that the distance from the basepoint to the cursor _IS_ the scale factor. You can see that distance and have it updated dynamically, by toggling your coordinate line to POLAR format when dragging from a basepoint. The distance component of the "distance<angle" specification *IS* the scale factor. If you specify a reference length other than 1.0, then this this doesn't work, but in that case, you usually want to scale an existing length to a new length that is already known, or determined by using osnap. -TonyT.

No kidding…I'd just assumed that the coordinates were reading units, not scale factors. Guess I'll have to pay more attention from now on <g>. Craig <the more time I spend here, the dumber I feel> B

Craig – You assumed correct. If you scale the distance 1.0 by 3.5x, the resulting distance is 3.5 units. -TonyT.
