Don: Are you sure you have the Phar Lap DOS Extender upgraded to v2.6? Also, remove EMM386 from your CONFIG.SYS file and the ,UMB from your DOS=HIGH statement. Suddenly you'll see that baby load the whole drawing into memory (no more swap writes and reclaims) and the loading time will seriously decrease. Try setting the cache for 1Mb at most – extended memory. Frankly, you may not need it at all (definitely not if the machine is primarily used for AutoCAD). Larry

Mark: I had problems with acad when using the ,UMB switch. Never did get around to finding out why, but I didn't need it. The better solution is to use QEMM, but DOS's Himem.sys will do in a pinch. Larry
