Thanks for the help… Actually, I got by that level and am now on level four… I was just wondering if there was some easy way to kill the purple worms.. I just can't keep up with the monsters because I run out of magic and then if I sleep too much I starve. Any suggestions on how to quickly dispose of your enemies or on how to conserve magic would be appreciated because right now it's very difficult to get by. Chris Peters

Conservation of food is definitely a skill you have to learn. Too much reliance upon magic leads to lots of sleeping (to regenerate mana) which leads to consumption of lots of food. Level 4 is really a bear, but you need to let your fighters do most of the work. The worms are very tough, but DOORS are even tougher. Don't try to take the worms on except at a place of your choosing: with them under a door! Push the button to drop the door on them, then hack away until they retreat. Open the door again and let them get under it again, etc. Also, remember to let your back row throw stuff at them while they're "resting" just beyond the door. ANYTHING you throw will hut them a little, even worm rounds! In fact, I finished a worm off by throwing his mates worm rounds at him (sweet justice!).

Thanks for the hints about the doors, I never thought of that. Is it absolutely necessary to kill all of those trees in that other room on level four? Also, my map shows a secret door right before that room that I can't seem to get open. Any hints? Chris Peters

Chris, First those "trees" <Screamers> are food and food is always nice. You might remember that room cause you may get hungry later and something "magic" happens when you leave that room and return. The secret passage your talking about can only be opened from below. You will have to find another way down to level 5. BR — Canton, Ohio

Bill, Well, I figured out all that and got down below to level six… I've run into a copule of problems down there… First of all, I have heard of a fifth bonus riddle if you get the first four right. Is this a fact? If so where is the riddle and where can I answer it. I think I got the first four correct. Also, in the big maze type room there are two secret doors. One of them I know is opened by a hidden pit, but everytime I leave that pit the door closes and nothing that I seem to put on it trips it… Also, is the other door just tripped by something on one of the walls? Any hints would be great.. Chris Peters

There are 4 riddles, 3 open the door, the 4th will give you a "bonus" key. The closing door is solved by having something stand on it while you go thru the secret door. A magic box might come in handy here.

Ok… Thanks for the hints… Where might I find this bonus key? In that same room? Also, is there another secret door in that big room or is my map incorrect? If so, any hints on how to open it? thanks. Chris Peters

Chris, There are ONLY 4 riddles total. You can open the door with 3 and the 4th gives you the "bonus". <Examine the room, near the door, if you answered all 4> As a "hint" let me say that YOU can't stand on that pressure plate and get through the secret door. You must have someone or something else stand there! <Be sure to have a Magic Box handy if someone shows up!> There is a hidden "button" on the wall that opens the other secret room. You should hear a "click" when you push it. <This button is not all that near by but it is in the room> I'm glad to help and can't wait till a few more folks get down a level or two so I can get some help from them. I seemed to have few problems in getting to level 7 but things get a little sticky after that and I am sort of stuck. Below level 7 things get strange. Instead of doing a level at a time like you do on Levels 1 – 6, you find yourself attempting to go between several to find objects. It's real confusing to me but then I'm not an experienced gamer. Bill- Well, thanks for the hint, I got a bunch of skeletons to stand on the plate. I think I'm basically done with level six except for that place where it says test your strength… I can't seem to get those force fields to go away or to open the door on the other end. I tried to throw things on the pressure plate through the gate/door on the other end, but to no avail.. Any hints as to what to do there. Thanks again. In the meantime I did venture down to level 8. I only found one Ra key above level 7, is this correct as far as you know? I think I pretty much finished level eight except for that one area that seems inaccessable except by teleport or maybe the level below??? It's in the northeast corner incase you don't know what I mean. If your having any problems with level eight I'll try to help… By the way, have you played sword of sodan or heroes of the lance?? Chris, Back on 6 <Test Your Strength>, you might try sending something through the force field where you can't go yourself. Different folks have used different techniques but I just shot an arrow. When the arrow landed on the pressure plate I could "hear" the door open. I then went aroung and volia! As far as I know, there is only ONE Ra Key above level 7. I haven't found any others yet, have you? By NE do you mean, upper right on the maps provided in the Libs? The only Secret Door I see in that area is opened by a button "close by". It is clearly marked on the map. To the best of my knowledge, I've completed most of level 8 myself, except for finding a way into the secret doors that lead to the "stairs". There is an area <upper left> that is accessable only from below <level 9>. Level 9 is where I am apparently stuck. I've been into a couple of areas but can't find anywhere else to go that I can actually get into. I guess I'll just wait till you get here to show ME the way. Are you using the maps? Personally I take all the help I can get! <smile> BR — Canton, Ohio

Whats your problem on Level 9? Im "below" you (actually I just got the firestaff – so Im on level 7). Let me know and Ill give you a hint.

Paul, I have explored all the areas that I can get to on 9 and even have found a way down to 10 but there are several areas that I can not get to. There is a place with a gate that has a pit behind it open and closed by a lever that I have access to. How do I get the gate open? How far down did have to go before you could return to the Level 7? Any clues as to location of Ra Keys <even the level # would be of help>? BR — Canton, Ohio

Bill- Thanks for the help… I did finally manage to get an arrow all the way across that force field, but I had to use a slayer.. I actually had tried that method before but was unsuccessful in using a throwing star – it didn't go far enough. Well, I got down to level 9… It's like a whole new game down here… The rats are killers!! Have you found an easy way to kill them or a weapon that is really effective??? So far I've had to rely on fireballs… I've only explored a small part of level 9, but I'll let you know if I find the way through that gate you were talking about…. Chris Peters

The RA keys are on Level 7 (the last RA key is on this level), Level 9?? (cant remember if its this one or 10) and Level 12. Did the lever/pit have a chest on the pit before you pulled the lever? If so you need to get downstairs and look in the chest for a clue. I just solved DM this morning, the game went quite fast once I had the firestaff. After I got the key from Level 12 (total of 3 keys), I went back up to the firestaff level.

There is a straightforward way to kill a single pair of purple worms. Retreat to a 2×2 open space. When the worms face you, strike (a battle axe is nice), then sidestep and turn to face the square you just left. They will hesitate a tick, then charge into that square and turn to face you in your new square. By this time, one of your fighters ought to have caught her breath and be ready to slug them again. Repeat until sliced. Note that the brainier worms won't always charge into the square you vacated, but will sidestep themselves. Be alert for this and move accordingly.
