#TV1024

Hey…
Help me… Please… I've a customer with a TV1024 board. Coll, but
never realy that cool… Since I don't have one setting around, I
thought I'd ask the questions about drivers for this pup. It's a
darned $$$ Tseng4000 card with a 1/2 mb of ram (owe) or its
Truevisions power board with no drivers? Does that jive with the
forums understanding? Could an Adesk suport guy clear this up? Does
anyone make drivers for the TV1024 board for V3?
Needing help and willing to pay…
Dr Pixel
Dan,
I don't know about the TV1024 either. If it truly an ET4000 based board like
their other TV-NTSC board, then you can select Tseng 4000 in the VIBCFG setup
and it will work fine. If it is not based on the ET4000, then I don't know. You
might want to ask this question over in the Truevision forum. (GO TARGA) for
the definitive answer. (Always go to the source when you can.)

Brian…
Thanks for the input. The TV1024 is a HR Windows display that never did much
for me. My customer got his from some dealer in CA who told him "this will make
3ds very cool"… What a joke. The board has only 512k VGA ram and 3.5 mb of
"other" ram for windows stuff. I've never got mine to run well with windows,
and it's so slow for 3ds…
You guys are cool. The realtime support via cserve is top notch! Keep up the
good work and tell Nik he's 2/3rds as cool as you…
As for the 1024, without v3 drivers, who cares…
1/3rd as cool as Nik
Dr Pixel
Dan,
I thought you guys were Truevision dealers. The TV1024-32 has both a
Tseng Labs ET4000 (512k) and a 34020 (which gets the rest of the memory on the
board. You can run the VGA side using standard ET4000 drivers, including
through the VESA driver that Truevision supplies. Truevision's RDPADI for 3D
Studio only functions properly with 3DS R2, but they are working on a R3 driver
(a few other driver projects pushed it to a back burner). BTW, the 1024XP is a
different board, based on 3 S3 chips – similar to the RasterOps Paintboard PC.

Kevin…
I am a Truevivion dealer… As you know, some of the best info does not come
from the manufacturer…
As for the questions, you've confirmed what I was thinking. The TV1024 is a
very expensive ET4000 board until the V3 drivers are done… I think I'll tell
the customer to sell off the 1024 and get some cool, low cost stuff…
Thanks for the help, you must be a dealer…
Dealing, but not dealt
Dr Pixel
Dan,
Just pulling your leg. Aren't you NW Tech? If so, you and CSA were
part of the same Truevision Master Dealer Council. Also, maybe the Tektronix
Dealer Council?

Owe…
You tug like a man! Ok, enough funny stuff! The 1024 board is going to be sold
"down the river." A 512k ET4000 board that cost about $2,000 seems a little
odd…
So the question needs to be asked on this cool forum… What is the coolest
Studio board (regaurdless of cost… like that makes it a fair questions…)
any of the users use? Comments, questions and rude remarks welcome!
Curiosity burnt up the pixel.

Distinguished Dr.,
I have a Diamond Viper (fortunately one of the old Weitek VGA chipset ones that
work with 3DS) and it is KILLER! Main Display in 1280 x 1024 x 256 and _fast_
even without Liquid Speed (budget problem <G>). I have my Materials Editor at
640 x 480 x 24bit, and my rendering screen at 800 x 600 x 24bit. With the
rendering screen at 800 x 600, I can render (sometimes with "strange" aspect
ratios) 640×480 VGA, 512×486 TGA, 720×486 CCIR 601, and 752×486 Vista
resolution images and _never_ reconfigure (isnt there a saying about never?).
BUT, from what I have seen on the Matrox boards in ACAD and Windows, the jury
is still out. If their performance in 3DS is anywhere near ACAD and WIN, they
will be the board to beat! (IMHO)
Chuck
>> 752×486 Vista resolution
Strange, my Vista does 756×486. Or did you mean 752×480 PAR
resolution, which also works? <g>
Greg,

I think that was the result of all these darn numbers running together after a
while, or is that the resolution of the new PARista? <BG>
Chuck
Greg, When you render for the PAR do you render to fields or not? Dave
Dave:
Yes, the PAR plays back at 752x480x24bit, 60 fields per second!
Fields always look better than frames to any device that can handle them!
Greg Pyros
Master…
So you are working in the field of dreams… Hey… Would you care to say when
you the cool par might be shipping? And does Chuck really drink a bottle of Gin
every 3 hours? That is a bunch of Gin…
Gin and bearing it…
The lost Pixel…
Big guy:
The PAR should be shipping within _days_ now. Can't wait!
Yes, that's what keeps Chuck awake for his late night CI$ sessions. Have you
been looking at the time on most of his messages?
Greg Pyros
Good advice. I tried that card for a couple of days last year and really hated
it. It was pretty slow in Windoze, too.
