Blaq– If I remember right, Steve W. did NOT write ISL. I think it came from some guy at NASA, who wrote it as a utility for himself. I might not work with 2.9, since some stuff (layers, etc.) has been added to the stage format. BTW- I'm not sure how you're figuring laserdisk playback. If it's at half speed, what you should see is each field in sequence; that is 1A – 1B – 2A – 2B – 3A – 3B. Maybe not, but that's how all my tape machines play back at 1/2 speed; I'm pretty sure Sony v disks do too. Try it and see (you just have to experiment with how you re-interlace in ADPro, as it is possible to put the fields "backwards" in the frame, which does look weird!) — jeff

You are correct, Steve W. didn't write ISL, but rather a gentleman by the name of John T. Grieggs. Also, it seems as though the Layer data in the Imagine 2.9 staging file does cause an Unknown Chunk Error in the ISL destaged file. This, in turn, causes a data overflow when the file is restaged.

Yea. Too bad about the unknown chunk error. ISL is indispensable at shaving time off projects. I wonder if an update is forthcoming. -Richard

ISL has been updated several times in its existence. My guess is that once 3.0 hits the streets, with all of the additions to the staging file nailed down, it'll be a simple code change in ISL to bring it up to speed. I personally found ISL indespensible for globally altering directory paths for each of the objects in an animation if they differed from my own. I sometimes wish it was that easy to remove or alter textures and their directory paths in a grouped object. Ever D/L an object that, no matter how many times you fix a directory for a brushmap or texture, it still comes up with an error message of "texture not found" or something similar when you try to render it?

The ISL update will arrive none too soon for me. I just did a 320 frame animation with multiple object all using the same effects. It was quite tedious adding them in the action editor and could have been done in a fraction of the time with ISL. I wish I could say that I never have seen the "texture not found" msg. I've found that a hex editor is often useful in changing paths in a grouped object. -Richard

<I just did a 320 frame animationwith multiple object all using the same effects…> Sounds like a good use of the Clone function in the Stage editor. Make the first object with all of the F/X and clone it in the Stage editor for each additional object. Save Changes. Go into the Action editor and click on the Actor subrow for each clone and change the Object Name to the new object. Return to the Stage editor and position the objects as necessary. Cut and Paste (PC version) may do similar things in the Action editor, but, alas, I do not have the PC version. I agree, however, ISL can't arrive soon enough. >Cut and Paste (PC version) may do similar things in the Action editor, You mean the 2.9 PC version has Cut and Paste already?? <<< Tony D. Tracer >>> (Any render time >0 needs acceleration.)

<You mean the 2.9 PC version has Cut and Paste already??> AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!! I'm assuming the current 2.9 PC version has Copy, Cut, and Paste in the Action editor. It may have been a beta version somewhere between 2.9 amd 3.0 that I saw (if so, sorry Mike, I didn't mean to leave the cat out of the bag). :^# Alan Henry – Digital Plastic F-100-PW-200 Inside

Wow. Thanks for the tip. I cloned some objects but didn't realize it would also clone the associated fx. I lost the the pages that came with my upgrade so I've been winging it on the new features. Cut and paste in the action editor should be a real winner.
