Microsmiths certainly doesn't agree that you need to have an HD to be able to run a lot of software. Keeping code size down is a very high priority for us. This doesn't seem to be the general trend, though, and in many cases I think it is a better choice to get a product out with a lot of features quickly rather than giving any consideration to code size. If you've got an A2000 with a 2620 card and a fast hard disk, the size of a program is usually not very important. But there are a lot of folks out there with 512K A500's and a single disk drive.

Or a very ancient A1000 with floppies. Sometimes I feel terribly out of style.

I still think the A1000's a lot more "stylish" than either the A500 or the A2000. Much nicer ergonomics. I'd like to see an expandable Amiga with design style as nice as the A1000's!

So would I, Charlie. I really want the expandability, but I've been happy with my 1000 so far. When I decided not to trade up last year, I was afraid I would regret it later, but I haven't. Now, of course, I want a hard disk badly, so a 2000 makes more sense. This time last year, that just didn't seem important. Betty

Betty: Though most of my work now-a-days is on an Amy 2K, I am not about to give up my A1K! Jay Miner spoke at the SDAUG last night (and was well received as usual). He mentioned that he thought that the A1K keyboard was on of their most serious mistakes. From a marketing standpoint I suppose that he was right but I still like the A1K keyboard better than anything else that I have ever used. Believe me, a little 20 or 30 meg HD works just great on the A1K. 73, bill

Bill, Many people are doing fine with hard drives on the 1000. But I love that 2meg memory card on the side of mine. I proved that the SideCar would work on the other side of that box, but hard disks so often do not – I really hate to even try it. Betty
