#hc2+8 upgrade ???
3 messages in this thread
Gary, I just installed the v2 rom for my HC2+8 purchased about 3 years ago
for my 2000. I'm wondering if there's anything special I should do other
then the chip installation and the software installation. I still have
problems if I power up an external drive I have (an old Oki on a scsi to
ide? adaptor). I can get to the drive but if I reboot I have problems. I
was advised that I should see performance improvements with the new rom
but haven't. Any thoughts? Thanks,
Ron

Hmmm, There's nothing normally needed when you upgrade your ROM, but I'm not
sure if the SCSI-to-IDE adaptor is causing any conflicts. I'll check with our
Technical Support team and see if we've had any experience with your particular
setup.

That's odd, and may be related to the adaptor, or the drive itself. If the
drive is at full-tilt, newer ROMs won't be able to help much…

Thanks Gary. If I can't use that drive so be it. I could probably use
the casing (it's external) and its power supply for a new drive; almost
any size would be an improvement.
If I do that, how do I find out how to properly terminate that drive?
Beyond that, I was told that there should be some speed improvement with
the new rom. If anything its now a bit slower. I am using the old
Blitzdisk software with it; do you suggest anything else in terms of disk
cache? Or anything else to improve performance on my non-accellerated
2000? Thanks,
Ron
