Hello,
I'm new to the Amiga and I'm wondering what is the best assembler out
on the market. Also are there any good books that are from a machine
programmers point of view and not a C-programmers point of view concerning the
insides of the Amiga.

There is a PD assembler in AmigaTech in the Assembler Lib – can't recall the
number, but if you type LN at the Forum! prompt, it will list them for you.
This one is called A68K.ASM, I think. It is pretty good. There are several
others available, but I hear the best things about the CAPE assembler from
Innovatronics if you want a commercial one.
As for books, I prefer the one from Compute! by Doug Leavitt and Dan Wolfe. It
should get you going as well as any book I've seen. COMPUTE'S AMIGA MACHINE

As far as the Assembler is concerned, I can heartily recommend Charlie
Gibb's A68K, a PD assembler. It is really slick.
There is a book from Abacus, called something like The Amiga Programmer's
Guide, that is written with all assembly language examples.

The problem with the Abacus books is that they are all written for the
assembler they sell–Assempro??? Anyway, it is not a very good assembler, I am
told. But they do have the examples – and about a dozen of those books. The
books are translated from German, and are the Becker books, I believe.
