Dear 3DS users: Anyone at Autodesk or elsewhere know of commands within 3DS or commercially available routines for generating stereoscopic views (calculating the camera positions according to left and right eye, hyper-stereo depth, etc.) ?? Perhaps an IPAS routine? Any help appreciated. Sincerely, Peter Nowell, 70534,1374

No, I dont know of any current IPAS routines to generate stereo views, but if you link two cameras to a dummy object, you can move the object around and always maintain correct left/right separation. I use this to create 3d Flics.

Peter, << stereo cameras >> I've heard of individuals doing this by positioning 2 cameras precisely and creating a dummy object and linking to it. The size and position of the dummy object is important for the rotation inherited by the cameras to feel correct. If the dummy object "follows" the path, the dummy object will bank and the cameras' roll values might have to be adjusted. By determining the frame of the max bank angle of the dummy, you would insert (add) a roll key in Track_Info_dialog for the camera (and|or) an additional roll key for the camera_target. Keyinfo_Dialog will allow you to type in a precise roll angle for the camera|camera_target. Determining, when the dummy object returns to a level postion, you would add roll keys again for the camera|camera_target and set the roll angle to 0. Peter, I'm hoping that when the algorithms for stereo viewers are well understood, someone will write a complex KXP to take all of this into account and automatically follow a path and accurately place the cameras for you. jonas[adesk]
