How many other Online! users have experienced the following: use of the
notebook causes the whole workbench to disappear; attempts to send an
archived captured file to another computer, (a mac), results in bizarre
fragmentation of the text file recieved, ( pieces of text duplicated and sent
as fragments later in the file, etc.). periods of nonresponsiveness when none
of the menu selections seem to do anything until some arbitrary length of
time later when they all happen at once and all that you can see is a flash
on the screen. Well, that's my sad story. It really doesn't handle capturing
very well either, by which I mean that things I really want to preserve tend
to vanish in the void at the beginnings of capture files, ( and these are not

Hmmm… I've had the freeze up happen to me also.. have you been setting any
character-delay when outputting from the capture buffer? I have to do that
when uploading mail to CIS. I also have problems with script files stopping
for no reason that I know of. I only am using one WHEN command in it and it's
allways a different length of time till stoppage. Doug

The Online! freeze-ups may be due to some of your modem control lines not
being connected. Utilizing any of the menu phone-control functions (CALL,
HANGUP, etc) will apparently cause the program to wait for the DTE and/or
other modem control lines to acknowledge – if these lines aren't connected
the system appears to freeze until a certain time-out. Try hitting ESCAPE –
if your system unfreezes, you are seeing the control-line symptom. I have
gotten around this by just not using the menu fns for calling – I store a
call string such as 'ATD1234567' as a macrokey, or in a script file, and just
send it directly to the modem. Have had no problems using this method.
Someday maybe I'll get ambitious and connect up all the missing lines in my
homemade cable, and then I can use all the built-in functions. ALSO – it is
not clearly documented, but if you have a telephone number (i.e. 'Primary Tel
No') stored on a .trm file, the program will automatically attempt to call
when this file is loaded in. This can result in the above system freeze – so
delete the Primary and Alternate telephone numbers from your .trm files if
you use the macrokey/script method. This is especially important for an
'Online!.trm' file, since it will autorun as soon as Online! is loaded. –APL
