#passthru load RAM

Being fairly well versed in the subject, I can give you a realistic
answer only if I know what you are using as your external drive system. In
most cases the external floppies will not affect bus loading. Power supply
may be a problem, but if you are not running GenLock you gain back over
an amp that can be used to drive other devices. The Stabroard II draws
about 1/2 an amp and should work very well. It passes the expansion port,
is additionally internally expandable, uses many CMOS parts and is priced
attractively. It would be my choice. Too bad you want two MEGs, our
company makes a very nice one MEG Board, but the customer <sigh> is
always right!

Thanks. My 2 external drives are amiga 3.5's. I have got a good price on
starboard 2 m. about $450. I would like to see/hear about ASDG(sp)'s 2, 4 ,8
etc Meg. because they say it can be pationed off into saved ram if amiga gets
guru. ASDG's board has its own power supply; maybe can be floated off
batterries. James.
James, right now ASDG is running a sale to help celebrate my marriage. Buy
the 2M (two meg board) or 8M/2 (8 meg with two installed) and get a
mini-rack-c for half price. Thus 2 meg plus mini-rack plus extra slot,
power, etc, for 699.
The 8M series (you had asked about) is a single totally Zorro compatible
board taking 2, 4, 6, or 8 megabytes of ram. The ram array is socketed so
you can add your own chips to upgrade. (1Mbit by 1 at 150Ns). The board
fully auto configs even at 6 megabytes.

Wit only two external floppy drives, you would have no problem
running the Starboard II (with enough left over to run one of our SCSI
Hard Disk Controllers <hint>). The ASDG Virtual Disk program that allows
partitioning of the RAM is in the public domain and can be used on the
StarBoard II as well.
The current ASDG Box uses old `Zorro' standard (see new issue
of Amiga World hardware review for a discussion of `NEW' vs `OLD' Zorro.
I would not recommend buying an old Zorro box at this time, for the
reasons stated in the article. If you really decide you need a box,
several `NEW' Zorro spec boxes will be out by this summer.
But you can but the Starboard II -NOW- and still use it with
a proprely designed Zorro Box (that passes through the expansion port)
when they become available.
