#The Director and Sound
9 messages in this thread
I have an Amiga sound related question I'm hoping someone may be able to help
with…
… I'm a student in a program at New York University which makes extensive
use of Amiga hardware and software to produce a local (New York City) cable
television program. Currently the show makes use of a separate audio tape
cassette machine in order to supply a sound track (i.e. sound accompanying
the Amiga produced graphics presentations).
We are beginning to use a program called THE DIRECTOR to sequence images
created for our production. We would like to be able to locate a sound
player that can be started from within DIRECTOR (with a DIRECTOR "execute"
command calling a CLI "execute" or "run" to start an Amiga disk based sound
file). We have yet been able to find a sound player that will "run" in the
background (multi-task) while the DIRECTOR program is running (sound
players we have tried all take control of Amiga CPU and do not allow
DIRECTOR script to continue until sound file has played to completion)…
… So, the question is: How can we get sound files (files started from
within DIRECTOR calls to CLI) to play in the background (while DIRECTOR
scripts continue to run). We are using Electronic Art's INSTANT MUSIC and
need a sound player that will work from within DIRECTOR (i.e. play Instant
Music files started-up from within DIRECTOR and play in the background
while DIRECTOR script is executing).
Thanks in advance to anyone that has an answer to our problem.
Joe, have you tried the SONIX and SMUS players in DL16? I believe they
are called PLAYER.PAK and SMUS.ARC respectively, but may be wrong.
Gad Zooks!!!!!! That was fast… Just uploaded this question seconds GreG,
will these sound players allow for background/multitasking… … The
idea is too get music to play (called from within Director call to CLI
"run") behind Director graphics script.
Joe, I've used them at one time to play in the background as I worked. I
can't say how The Director will react though. Make sure not to have any
sound commands in the Director while the external sound is playing. If the
Director can't open an audio channel for it's use, it may either wait for
one to free, or ignore your request.
I was browsing through the DL and it looked like there was a program that
enhanced The Director's sound capabilities. I'm not sure if this would do
exactly what you want though. Good luck.
