acad2.6/compaq20mhz

I work at an engineering company here in Houston, TX. We use Acad on
several Compaq 16 and 20 Mhz computers. The 16's work fine with 2.5,2.6 and
Release 9. The 20's work fine with 2.5 and Release 9 but refuse to work
with 2.6 unless Compaq's Cemm is installed. Normally that would not be a
real problem except I just received 386-to-the-Max from Qualitas software.
386^max does not seem to want to work with Compaq's Cemm so I can't use
386^max on the 20 mhz machines with 2.6 . Is there a patch for 2.6? What in
2.6 would cause the problem that is not caused by either 2.5 or Release 9?
I would really like to solve the problem because 386^max solves the problem
of trying to run acad and tsr's in the same memory space. 386^max in
certain configurations allows over 140k of normal i/o page space which
helps also.
Renwick, try disabling the cache memory controller with MODE MEMCACHE OFF.
This is not necessary with Release 9 but has proved to be needed with 2.6.
Optionally, simply upgrade to Release 9. =SM=
Steve, thanks for replying so quickly. I will try your solution of turning
off memcache. I can't quit using 2.6 yet for a couple of reasons. One, I am
in the middle of a big project in which a large number of drawings have
already been created using 2.6 . Also, we have already upgraded to Release
9 and have discovered that Sigma still does not have a driver for the
Laser-view monitor that we use. We could use the Laserview but the pull
down menus do not work. By the way, the name of our company is S $ B
Engineers, Inc. We have several (all registered) copies of Acad, one of
which is serial # 01-846869 in case you are interested. As a side note, the
Autocad Dept. leader and I were reading some of the messages in this forum
and we came across the one about people buying cheap $1850 copies of Acad
and expecting support. Well, our experience has been that even though we
fork over somewhere in the neighborhood of $2800 for our Acad we still do
not get good support. The vendors around here do not know nearly as much
about Acad as we do. Furthermore, hardware support is almost not existent
as well. So, to us, it does not matter what we pay, we still do not get

Ren, a couple of comments: drawings created with version 2.6 will load up
into Release 9 (with no conversion necessary) so there is no reason to use
2.6 just because that's what they were created with. Once edited with R9
however, you must use an edited DXF file to go back to 2.6: simply use a
text-file editor to delete lines 381-396. … The LaserView is a nice
monitor… their driver should be available soon. Meanwhile, R9 without the
AUI features ain't all bad! – it's just like with 2.6. =SM=
