I was sent a promo on a new video product, the ASDG Abekas/Exabyte. I am
curently using a Sony EVO 9650. I was wondering if anyone has used one of
these ASDG products. Does it perform better then the EVO with a targa card?
I'll take comments of any kind.

You are comparing apples and oranges here! What the ASDG software does is
convert your Targa files through a Windoze program to YUV, and store them on a
tape backup made by Exabyte corporation.
You then send off the tape to a post production house who has an Abekas digital
disk recorder, the files are copied onto it, and played back real-time and
recorded onto whatever format you specify. (D-1, BetaSP, etc.)
It is much faster and cleaner than an EVO with a Targa card, however, you have
to send it out to have it done.

Greg has answered your question pretty well, but as a frequent Abekas Driver
(ASDG) user, I'll add that using this technique allows folks like me (poor <g>)
to compete with larger companies that have digital, high-end video equipment.
The Abekas DDR's are D1 devices, so they output the current highest industry
standard video. I generally pay between $.14 and $.20 per frame for this sort
of service.
