Mike, unfortunately with the ET4000 (w32,w32i,etc.) you cannot render
in a 3DS-slave session in OS/2. For some reason the ET4000-drivers do
not allow DOS-graphics applications to run in the background. Not
even the "/BGEXEC"-switch helps. In the Tseng mailbox you find beta
drivers for the ET4000/W32 chipsets. To my knowledge they don't
support background execution for graphic dos sessions yet. Maybe in
their final version. Background execution works fine with S3-graphic
adaptors – as long as you set the 3DS slave VGA. — tobias
Thanks very much for the help. I thought that all I had to do was buy os2 and
start multi-tasking with 3ds. It's taken two frustrating weeks to get to the
truth. I bought the tsing in exchange for a Stealth-Vram Becouse I thought it
was the culpret.It should be no problem to exchange again. Pardon my
inexperience but who makes s3 graphic adapters. I'll put on a search right now.

Mike, S3 is a company. Their chipsets are generally referred to as S3
although they have a whole bunch of different ones. If I remember
correctly their nicest one is the 86C928, which supports 4MB VRAM.
Many companies (e.g. ELSA, Miro, STB, etc.) build graphic adaptors
based on chipsets from S3. — tobias
Can You name some(cards) that use the chipsets that work with the s3 drivers
that IBM sent with os/2 for windows
Stealth 24 is one of them. Looking for other cards for comparison and because
diamond has left bad feelings here Card has to work with the ISA bus, be able
to run 3ds r3 in the background and be around $200. Thanks Mike
There is a document of video cards over in the IBM OS2USER forum that is fairly
up to date…it covers most of the cards that run under the os. I don't have
the name of the file offhand, (I think it's video…something) but a quick
search would turn it up.

This is not entirely true. You can run DOS-graphics applications
with the ET4000 drivers, in the background or in a window IF the
graphics resolution is 320×200.
Harold, 320×200! You're right. Completely forgot this one. Maybe VIBRANT will
supply 320×200 drivers for 3DS soon (g).
