#AMaxIV = YES!

I have my drive running between the IBM at one end and the Emplant at
the other , I use the emscsi.device for my CD-Rom needs under Asim's
CDFS to mount the CD drive and Scsimounter for the Syquest. BTW the
CD can be used by the Amiga and IBM when they take turns (waiting
till one is finised) but not the Amy and the Mac (asim locks out the
mac). I use the controllers to terminate the bus (no terminator
resitors on the drives) at each end. I wouldn't advise you to try 3
controllers as that would be a mess, just use the empscsi.device for
mounting the CDDrive
I guess that may work. I could try to get the tape drive to
work as well. I don't use asimcdfs for the CDROM on the Mac side,
but rather have a cd rom driver so the Mac looks at it as a Mac scsi
manager device. Same for the tape drive. On the Amiga side I, too,
use empscsi.device to get the Amiga access to the cd rom and the tape
drive, using asimcdfs only on the Amiga side. I hadn't given thought
to hanging the PC scsi off the emplant board. I had the whole thing
on one line when I was using Amax.
However, this still doesn't work around the fact that both the
Mac and PC scsi controllers are sharing the same scsi ID. Is your PC
controller configurable? Mine isn't, so both would have scsi ID=7. I
wonder how that might screw things up.
My pc controller isn't configurable either, but both are pleasant enough
together as long as the pcfinishes it's setup (config.sys/autoexec.bat). As
long as my PC and Amy don't try something at the same time I'm safe. BTW Asim's
CDFS is for the Amiga for the Mac you'll need something like CD Toolkit and
ISO-9600 extensions.

Ben,
Well, I gave it a try and it works fine, within the parameters you've
outlined, namely don't let both sides try to access the devices at the same
time. At least I'm back to where all three platforms can access the tape and
cdrom drives. I thought I understood you about Asimcdfs, but it wasn't real
clear. I use Asimcdfs on the Amiga with the device set as empscsi.device. I
have CD-ROM Toolkit on the Mac. BTW, Ben, have you noticed how much ram
empscsi.device grabs when you mount the CDROM with Asim? When I mount the cd
rom I lose 512K of ram. Empscsi.device must set one hellacious buffer!!
You know I've never paid attension to that (got real comfortable with 16 megs)

Well, until I got Amax IV and now an Emplant, I rarely considered a need for
more than the 8 meg I had. But Amax IV and Emplant both need that extra ram.
So now I have 12 in the tower and I just ordered another 4 meg for the 3000 to
bring it up to 12 meg. Even then both emulators are only running 8.5 meg Mac
systems, and after I load the OS and extensions, I have about 5.5 meg left for
apps. Given that I use Word, Excel, and Pagemaker regularly, that's not really
very much!!
Nope you need more RAM ;-}
