#Need IPAS Help
3 messages in this thread
If anyone could help w/ this….. I have 3DS R3, all Yost IPAS, other
IPAS, etc.. I need to create an anim which uses trailed particles
(similar to spurt, Fireworks, etc.), which APPEAR to be traveling the
length of a transparent curved tube (like a radiator hose), and are
constrained by that tube. The result should be a bunch of particles
with (ideally) curved trails, which group together to form the shape
of the hypothetical "tube" at a given point in time, and as I said
(important), travel the length of that "tube" over the anim.
duration.
This is a fairly common SGI-level effect and I hope I've explained it
clearly as well as hope it can be achieved somehow. Any help ASAP
would be GREATLY appreciated.

I'd do this by copying a spurting object n times (where n is the
length of the path, in frames, divided by a number in a range of,
say, 5-10). I'd then use the slide tracks to offset the copies in
time by that same number of frames, staggering them all. Finally,
animated opacity maps and/or different spurt values could be used to
fade the copies into each other.
Check out Vortex.axp from Blackbox. There is a demo or two of this IPAS here
in the libraries somewhere, but the one I downloaded is just a simple
whirlpool-like vortex.
You can use an object (like a radiator hose mesh) as the bouding box, and make
your own particles (saved as ASII meshes and specified in the IPAS dialogue
box). You can control the parameters of the vortex to get the effect you
desire.
