Say does any one know anything about Adobe Photoshop, or a forum on
Compuserve, or better yet anyone that uses Photoshop. My problem is
that I'm trying to import different .tga pics into one, but of course
I'm unable to. Or if anyone has a better program that will do file
imports, ex: .tga, .gif, and allow manipulation of the final picture.

I use Adobe Photoshop on both Mac and PC and have no trouble loading
TGA files, compressed or uncompressed.

Well I am glad to see that a lot of 3-d users use Photoshop. I quess
I didn't make my point clear.
I don't have any trouble loading a .tga or .gif file up in Photo, my
problem is that when I try to "place" another .tga or .gif or .esp
file into the existing open file I get an error message to the effect
that the file I am trying to "place" does not conform to the adobe
illustrator 3.0 format.
If you know of another way to combine two or more pics into one using
photoshop please let me know.

Carl,
Sure, that's an easy one! Open a .TGA file. Open another .TGA
file. You now have 2 documents on the desktop. Now select one of
the images, or a portion. Use Edit, Copy to put into the clipboard.
Move to the other image. Use Edit, Paste. BTW, you can only place
an .EPS or .AI (Adobe Illustrator) file – probably vector info only.
You'll note that Place does not offer you the whole list of Open or
Save As file formats regularly available in Photoshop.

'GO ADOBE' for the adobe forum on Cserve, they have a section for
Photoshop.

Could you elaborate a little? Are you unable to open the images in
Pshop, or are you just having trouble getting the result you want?

I'm still not sure exactly what your trying to do. Are you
trying to use the 'place' command to place an .AI file that was done
in Adobe Illustrator into another image? If not, than your using the
wrong command, because thats all it does. If your trying to combine
two or more bitmap files (tga's or whatever) into one image, then the
easiest thing to do is use a selection tool to select the area you
want, and copy it to the clipboard, then activate the image you want
to put it into and paste it in. However, there are several ways of
combining images, so I'd need to know exactly what your trying to
accomplish to really be of much help. Also, if your trying to combine
an EPS file with a normal bitmap, you'll probably need to convert the
EPS file first.
If this doesn't help, give me some details on what you want to do, and
I'll try to let you know the best way of going about it.

There are quite a number of different TGA formats. I've not have any problems
importing into PHOTOSHOP v2.5, PICTURE PUBLISHER v4.0 or Halo DESKTOP IMAGER
v1.0 execpt an occasional problems with 16bit files. 24bit color files have
always worked fine.

Have you tried copying a portion (or all) of the first image (to the clipboard)
that you want to combine with the other image and then pasting it into the
other image. You can then move the selection around in the second image. The
"File:Place" command is only for Adobe Illustrator (vector) files.
