The problem I was having with the Matrox card is now definitely
confirmed by Matrox as incompatible drivers; the updated R3 drivers
will be available in a month.
However, the other day on my system I was importing a DXF file and the system
crashed. When I went to re-run 3D Studio I received the message:
ERROR: 3DS.SET Error in line:
WELD-THRESHOLD=0.0001
I already tried reinstalling, but I receive the same message. What does this
sound like?

In Release 2 we had a similar problem. Here is what we found out for Release 2:
Error in line: Weld-Threshold – 0.0001

[SYMPTOMS]

This error occurs during initialization of 3D Studio. It usually indicates
that the Weitek math-coprocessor has worked it's way out of the socket. If
there is no Weitek math-coprocessor, it may be pointing to a math co-processor
which has failed, or is failing.
[SOLUTION]

If a Weitek chip is present, first run the diagnostic utilities that come with
the math-coprocessor. Secondly, open the CPU and make sure the chip is seated
properly in its socket. They have been known to work their way out through
thermal expansion.
If there is no Weitek, you should still run diagnostic tests on the
math-coprocessor. The system may have fried the math-co somehow.

That's a strange one! The other thing besides Brian's suggestion is to take a
look at the lines above and below WELD-THRESHOLD and see if it may be there.
