#BIG problems w/3DS

I haven't changed any settting from the defaults on the cards, so I'll check
that out – thanks!

OK- so far, for 10 days, I've been left out in the dark, IMHO. I
think (since I've been in computers for 21 years, and a reseller for
8) that I know computers pretty darn well. I've run every diagnostic
known to man – and *nothing* else has any problem(s) with the
configuration. I even checked for viruses, reloaded from the original
program diskettes, pulled out a few remaining hairs and just haven't
seen any forward progress. I'll let you know what happens! I have a
shareware program out in 9 languages, so it's not like I don't know
many of the esoteric in's and out's of PC-compatible computers, and I
know that lots of folks out there are rendering away with 3.0 (rev 2)
and having no problems. What's really puzzling is that things I
rendered for the previous two weeks before I started having problems
went smooth as silk – never a glitch or burp one. Now I can't even
get through a simple 60-frame FLIC without snagging something
somewhere – and nothing in the hardware or software (except as
detailed above) has changed… <?>
Mike, sounds like you've got plenty of experience. At this point I'd
probably figure that something like a Bios chip or memory chip or CPU
had an intermittent. But not having gone through the whole process,
its really hard to call.
Well, I *think* I've found the culprit – it =really= didn't make sense
to me that both machine would "go south" on me at one time, but this
morning when I was trying to copy some WordPerfect documents off the
file-server I got an I/O error on the H: (network) drive. (bummer!
it's a 1.5GB big dog – another battle to fight when I'm through with
this one) Anyway – I'm reinstalling from my original diskettes onto
each machine while not even connected to the server, will give back
another report tomorrow… (looks like it's going to be a looooong
evening!) <g>…

Everything went OK last night! I left four renderings in the queue on
one machine, and put a 360-frame render on the other – all came out
just fine! Thanks for your help – seriously – sometimes we think
we're losing our mind these days <g>…

Terrrific, where you able to figure out what the problem was, or was it one of
those things where just by putting everything back together it worked?

Well, I suddenly got "Read Error 27" messages from WordPerfect when
trying to edit some files – the application is installed on the
server. (error 27 is their cryptic message meaning "A)bort, R)etry,
I)gnore", etc) Anyway – all seems well as of late friday – more news
at 11
Mike, I'm kinda curious how you resolved your problems, do you think it was
network related? Are you using DOS 6.2? I just ask because it seems to be much
more stable and has some nice safety features built in.
