#Amiga Point Software

To all Amiga users: 12 Feb 94
Can anyone help with a question on communications? A friend runs a
BBS on a Mac. He wants to set me up as a "point" for his system, which
would allow schedu
led downloads of pertinent data. Does anyone know of
a public domain or shareware program that allows the amiga to be set up
as a "point" for another BBS? I found "FastPoint" on CIS, but it seems
to be part of another program… I'd appreciate any input.
Thanks,
John McCollister, Chicago, Il.
Point systems for the Amiga usually come as two programs. I don't remember
the terminology used, but one of them communicates with the BBS and the
other one is what you use to read and write messages. They work together
by exchanging files of packed messages.
The program "Trapdoor" is a common choice for the communicating program.
There are others but I don't know their names.
The programs "Point Manager", "Spot" and "April" are common choices for
the other program.
All the above programs are shareware.
If you have access to an Amiga BBS you should find these. If you can't,
send mew a message. I used to use Point Manager and Trapdoor and I can
probably still find them.

You can also try Welmat as well, also you might be interested in the
new BBS program uploaded by one of our friends from Australia. The
program is called MAXsBBS and is Freeware now! I'm currently running
it here in Lubbock…its very nice software it even has a built in
Fidonet Front End and also has a built in Chron program that allows
you to run several programs at specified times throughout the day.
It's available for download in Lib 5….even if you don't want to run it it's
well worth looking at and making available to others in your area <G>
Cheers….
John,
What you need is Trapdoor v1.83. Further you can choose between several
Tossers/Scanners. I use a combination of Trapdoor and Point Manager v3.21.
Both programs are shareware. You also can use a combination of Trapdoor
and Spot 1.2d.
The shareware fee for all programs varies between 20 and 30 US dollars.
