#NEC 3D Prefs?
21 messages in this thread
Yeah! I finally am using a NEC/Multisynch 3D on mi-Amiga! Looks great.
HELP?
I still can't figure out the right settings to get the workbench to
fill the screen. I'm using NTSC:high res laced (usually). I am on OS
2.1. I have small black borders around the edges which are almost
non-existant due to the monitors thoughtful adjustment controls,
right up front where they ought to be. But, I'm still getting about a
half an inch of useless grey space on the right of the screen. It
looks like it ought to be able to be used by workbench but, the mouse
pointer disappears there, if I try to expand the workbench backdrop
into that space it can't be seen there. I'll try to portray it
graphically:

. —– grey unused space?
Again, I'm not talking about the normal black space but this looks like
displayable space.
It just plain bugs me!
Although, I am much happier with this monitor. I just happened to be able
to 'surplus' it in a major PC upgrade on our floor at work which I
happened to be helping to implement (tee, hee).
Thanks, in advance, for thoughts,
Robb
Robb,
Join the NEC Multisync 3D Border Club. It's not just you – everyone with
the 3D has this problem.
I haven't solved it, but there is a program called MonEd (I think) in the
libraries. I seem to remember that it claimed to do away with the
borders. I haven't bothered to try it though – if you do, tell us your
results.

I used Moned on my 3D and it fills the screen with grey from side to side
(in DBLNTSC anyway). The gray far left and far right (where the black
used to be) is still strictly background. Moned2 is the file, and it
works fine, just go easy with the adjustments.
One thing some people seem to forget, is the question of proportion. If
your workbench fills the screen top to bottom, you can't just arbitrarily
stretch it out left and right to fill the horizontal. Don't work that
way.

Rick,
Hmm, oh well. I was hoping somebody…
I've tried MonEd2 several times with no luck.

Rob,
We use the 3D (among others) at work on IBM clones and get the same thing!
Perhaps it's a monitor fault (or feature NEC would have us belive <g>)
just thought this might be useful..

Kevin,
We use the NEC 3Ds at work on PS/2's without the grey problem. The black
borders, yes, but, not this grey area.
Robb
Thats what I mean! I obviously have an inability to type what I'm
thinking <g>
Kevin,
I always have a great ability to type electronic notes that don't say
what I really mean. I continue to attempt it though.
PS. That grey area, still, just plain bugs me!
Just to put my two cents in. I too hated the black borders, but after
I setup MagicWB the whole screen became a nice grey pattern and
merged with the gray borders<g>. No more problem. You may want to
attempt this. The file would be called MAGIC3.LHA and it's in
AmigaUser forum. It's great!!
Robert,
The display on my PanaSync 1381 is the same as you've described.
I don't know of a way to eliminate the grey area, but then, Ihaven't
tried, as it doesn't bug me.
Michael,
Oh well, I guess I'll have to try not to let it bug me as well. And I have
tried…
Robb
hmmm, are you using overscan? do you have the picture fully expanded via
the monitor control? My overscan prefs are 684×422, and this works pretty
well.

Karl,
I've printed your overscan settings out and saved the message. I'll try
those exact settings. I guess that would be both graphics and text?
Wait a second looking in overscan I now realize I have no clue which
'monitor type' you are using as I don't seem to see a type, in my list,
which can accomidate those settings. Which selection are you making for
monitor type? Do you have some goodies I don't on my set-up? (I think I've
moved every monitor driver I can find into the drawer).
Robb
Monitor type is NTSC, and sizes are for both text and graphics. These
settings were for the normal Amiga graphics. Goodies? I have a
flicker-fixer, and a Picasso card, but they shouldn't be affecting the
NTSC settings, I hope.
-Karl Speaking from the Rubble.
My Overscan prefs shows max size for NTSC as 724 x 241???
Robb
Yeah, it does. But since I run in interlace, the vertical resolution is
doubled from what overscan prefs gives you. My actual overscan setting,
now that I look (blush) is 684×211, giving a actual screen resolution of
684×422. See? See? <G> Sorry about the confusion.
-Karl Speaking from the Rubble.
Karl,
Hmmm…as I'm sitting here, I set up my overscan with 684×211, hmmm…I've
borders all the way around with using that…Hmm, maybe it wouldn't bother
me so much if I have grey borders all the way around but…
No problem with the confusion. I figured that's where you were coming from
but, I wasn't positive.
Autopilot looks a bit disturbed by those settings, too.
Ahh, well. I'll get used to it.
Robb
You didn't actually answer this, but I originally mentioned expanding the
display via the front panel monitor controls. You did this, right?
-Karl Speaking from the Rubble.
Yep, I maximized the display, using the buttons, right after plugging it
in and turning it on!
Robb
Hmm, then I don't understand it at all, unless it's my flicker-fixer. Or
maybe your monitor is out of adjustment? I have a quarter inch black band
on both sides, and that's it.
I too had the quarter inch black left and 0,1050
Chris…
Thanks for the tip. Do you have Kickstart 2.05 running? I understand that is
necessary for HiD floppy support.
