Walter, I've never used Sonix or Synthia so I really can't comment on them. It _appears_ that they offer rather flexible ways of creating sounds, but as you mention they seem primarily geared for the musician. I've also seen a recommendation to you that you consider a Sampler. Unfortunately, those currently available for the Amiga lack in quality, if you want sound effects for a video game or just to fool around with it'll probably be fine, but for serious work, serious sound post dubbing or music, it probably won't cut it. The Program I mentioned to you, DRW, is an interesting program, produces all kinds of weird sounds and they can be saved in IFF standard format. This probably will be of limited use to you also, since it is slow and tinkering with created sounds is difficult. On the bright side, though, it's free (except for connect charges) and available in DL 15. Have you considered a Synthesizer? Something like a Casio CZ 230 or 1000? This is the most expensive way to go, but produces the best sound. With MIDI interface and a Librarian/Editor program, like the _superb_ PD CZL, also available in DL 15. Now you may be asking yourself why I've just suggested a synthesizer when you just said you were looking for general purpose sounds. Well, most of those that you've listed, wind, waves, alien, phasor, sirens, etc. are already provided in patches for the CZ machines. Some of them are pretty damn good, too-better than anything the Amiga can produce. One word of warning, though, if you go this way then be sure you get the proper MIDI interface. There are different interfaces for the 1000 and the 500/2000-I had to find out the hard way! Barry
