In previous message – covered the correct "Hue" setup procedure.
To get correct BRIGHTNESS.
Use the SMPTE color bars. Look carefully at the bottom right of the screen. A
black area. Slowly turn UP the brightness control. Notice that three small
dark colored bars appear in this black area. Also notice that the three little
bars vary in their "darkness".
Turn DOWN the brightness control until you can just clearly see the lightest of
the three dark bars only. That's it.
CARDINAL RULE. Never alter your monitor settings – once it has been CORRECTLY
set up. Check it with color bars about once each month. It is your
"auto-pilot" and hopefully will tell you the truth about what is coming out of
your system. Look elsewhere for any problem – working back from the monitor
thru' your system. Do NOT tweak your master monitor to make that grey looking
face on the screen a healthy pink. Find the cause (The guy may have been
sick!).

Hilary, or one could use a full field PLUGE in place of the SMPTE bars for this
setting.

Most certainly one could use the PLUGE you suggest Vince.
Perhaps you should add a note – for those interested – in how one obtains this
– and how it should be used. Am sure it would interest those concerned with
pix quality.
