Got your demo in the mail yesterday. I can say this much – it is thoughtfully put together. It was a real pleasure to go through. It didn't need the mirror ball or the Lotus but…what the heck, you probably had fun rendering them. Hopefully the demo is an indication of the care that went into crafting the release package. I like the editor. The smooth scrolling is nice. The Amiga-key sequences comform to the the Amiga (non)standard. My fave editor TxEd+ does as well so I will have no trouble using it. Emacs people will groan. Dare to be Amiga, I say! Questions about the editor: Can I configure the color scheme? TxEd and the Benchmark editor allow it. I use a blue WB screen but like black on white text. Could you post some docs on the AREXX support? How 'bout a list of what editor commands are supported? Fonts. Grrrr! All editors should work with the the fonts the user selects. Your editor uses a different selected font in the menu bar (which screws it up) but not in the text window. Try SETFONT COURIER 13 before running m2e to see exactly where it is and isn't used (kind of inconsistant). We power programmers (guffaw!) work with interlace overscan screens but certain wimpier ones (me) like a larger point size than 8. Freeze the menu/requestor fonts if necessary to preserve the layout integrity but don't make assumptions about the source text font. See Amiga Transactor #3 for a *stupendous* article by John Toebes on making programs work with any user environment. Not too much to say about the compiler/linker. It's based on the ETH single pass so I assume you've got a stable, time-proven design. The key will be the library module reliability. Time and more rigorous programmers than I will prove their worth. Once again, great demo! — Art
