I have attempted to download several files today and have had problems with the
resulting file integrity. File WHALE.TXT seems to be incomplete, both when
downloaded and as viewed with the READ command. Files IS49.ZIP and SKIN.ZIP
result in local zip files that report "bad CRC" errors. I have attempted to DL
each of these several times with different protocols (XMODEM, CIS QB, B+) with
identical results.
A sanity check here: are these files messed up or has something gone wrong on
my end? BTW, I downloaded HWLOCK.TXT with no problem.

We've picked up all of those files with no problem, so it's probably a line
glitch, or the like.

I downloaded most of those files late last night and they have impeccable
integrity. Therefore, you've been struck by the d/l gremlins <g>.
I hate those d/l gremlins! What confuses me most is that I downloaded
SKIN.ZIP *three* different times, using 2 different protocols,
rebooting once (I really want to see it!) and got the identical CRC
error from PKUNZIP each time. One heck of a repeatable glitch. <g> I
grabbed six other files with no problem, four with problems.
WHALE.TXT appeared trashed regardless of whether I downloaded or read
it online. ??? Would you have time to check WHALE.TXT again to see
if it's still OK? This is the first modem xfer problem I've in over
10 years.

Check your hard drive with one of the disk scanning utils. Perhaps every time
you attempt to save the DL, it hits the same bad sector on your drive.
Also, instead of deleting the "bad" file, you could rename it something like
XXX.XXX and if there is a bad sector it won't be re-used the next time you DL.
(Since it's being used by XXX.XXX).
Just a hunch, but it may help.
Thanks for the hunch, Dave. I had checked the disk with Norton but
I'll drag out the SpinRite and turn on the torture test. I was, in
fact, downloading several in succession without erasing any, so
different sectors would have been used. Since I also had problems
doing an on-line read of an ASCII file, I suspected either CIS
corruption or some wierd phone/modem schism.
The forth try for SKIN.ZIP was the charm – I d/l'ed it successfully
today (and it is MARVELLOUS – I've got to get that IPAS!) Also
today, I got a pile of other files that came thru OK, although they
ALL had CRC errors earlier. ???

Last night I d/l several of Mr. Kellerman's recent postings and all
were corrpted. However, the Skin and Whale postings were fine ? The
Kellerman stuff was the first time I've had that happen here. Using
PHUNZIP v. 2.04G I think. Thought I'd mention it.

Woodward Academy – on the southside of town ? That's where I grew up,
that part of town that is.
Nope. Woodward is different. Pace Academy is in Buckhead on West Paces Ferry
Rd. (where I lived).
